(Warning: Spoilers below for the season five finale if you have not seen it yet.)
After season five’s “explosive” season finale, it definitely left us wondering who exactly will, and won’t be returning next season after the whole island of Lian Yu went out in a massive explosion.
Well now we know at least one character who won’t be returning for season six, and that character is Malcolm Merlyn. Actor John Barrowman took to Instagram recently, where he revealed that he will not be back for another season of “Arrow,” and thanked the fans for the past five years of support, and for being apart of the Arrowverse for so long.
You can check out John Barrowman’s goodbye in the video below:
With how it was shown off screen pretty early in the episode, Malcolm’s death was one I was thinking might have been a fake out, but it looks like his death is going to stick according to John Barrowman in that video. At least for now.
With Malcolm Merlyn sacrificing himself to save Thea in the finale, I do think that was a great way for the character to go out, but after five years of appearing on “Arrow” and “Legends of Tomorrow” this past season, the Arrowverse is definitely going to feel different without Malcolm Merlyn in it.
