Some big “Arrow” news has come down today, as Entertainment Weekly has revealed that season seven will see a new showrunner for the series in Beth Schwartz, who has been with the show since season one as a writer’s assistant, and has moved her way up over the past six seasons, will now be the executive producer and showrunner starting next season.
Entertainment Weekly also revealed that current showrunner Marc Guggenheim will be moving into an executive consultant role for season 7, and Wendy Mericle will be exiting the series.
Here is the statement about Beth Schwartz being the new showrunner of the series from Greg Berlanti:

“We are all so incredibly thrilled to announce Beth Schwartz as the new showrunner of Arrow. She has been a source of some of the show’s most exciting and memorable moments from the beginning. Beth is a true leader and a captivating storyteller, and we all can’t wait for the audience to see what she and her team dream up as they take Arrow into its next big chapter.”

While this is indeed some surprising news, I’m excited about Beth Schwartz being named the new showrunner and the series getting some new creative blood to run it going forward, but at the same time having it be someone who has been with the show from the very beginning and who knows these characters.
With season six shaking up the status quo, and the series getting new leadership in season seven, the future of “Arrow” is definitely in an exciting place right now!
